What If

In the words of my 1.5-year-old granddaughter Mariana, I did it. I ran 23 miles yesterday. This is the furthest I have ever run. I have a smart training plan and on paper I should not have any concerns, however, that’s not life, is it? The last time I attempted 20 miles, my right IT band changed that plan at mile 16. I had to adapt (go to physical therapy and add in some additional strength training exercises to my program). Although I’d done another 16-mile run with no issues and felt good, I have this “what if” feeling. What if that happens again? What if my energy tanks? What if my phone belt breaks? Well, I learned that one – you just tie the straps together in a knot.

I’m sometimes consumed by these “what ifs” however I also had this perspective during my run yesterday. It’s just one run. I could be getting a diagnosis of ALS and facing the inability to run, walk or talk - ever. I always have my brother Leo in my thoughts but even more so yesterday as we marked the 15th anniversary of his death. He missed so much, and we miss him so much.

How about this for a “what if”. What if we could find the cure for ALS so no one else would have to receive this terrifying diagnosis? What if the money we raise gets the scientists to a breakthrough? What if our efforts make someone going through ALS right now feel supported?

We need your help to make these “what if’s” reality. Please join us for one of these upcoming events or simply make your donation using the link below. Thank you!
