Starfish Academy is The Alaska Club’s branded swim lesson program and the most comprehensive multilocation option for families seeking swim lessons in Anchorage, Eagle River, Fairbanks and Wasilla. With five convenient locations, our program makes it easy for families across Alaska to access high-quality swimming classes in a welcoming, safety-focused environment.
Members and non-members are welcome to participate, and new sessions begin every month. Registration for the upcoming session opens on the 15th of the previous month, giving parents plenty of time to plan. With certified instructors, structured level progression and lessons available for every age and ability from babies to adults, Starfish Academy helps swimmers build confidence, skills and a lifelong love of the water.

Our youth swim lessons are available for infants through teens (ages 6 months to 16+) at The Alaska Club South, East, Eagle River, Wasilla and Fairbanks. Our experienced, certified instructors specialize in helping young swimmers feel secure and supported in the water.
Non-members are welcome, but they must complete our online youth waiver before their first class. Non-members may also only use the pool during their child’s scheduled lesson time; siblings or additional non-member swimmers may purchase a guest pass, limited to twice per month, at the front desk if they wish to swim during that time.
Because every child learns at their own pace, we encourage swimmers to repeat levels until they’ve mastered the required skills. Progression depends on confidence and readiness, not speed.
Parent and Child (6 months to 3 years): Our baby swim lessons introduce infants and toddlers to the water through gentle, play-based activities. Parents learn essential safety skills while little ones build comfort, trust and early water awareness. No experience needed.
Preschool Aquatics 1-3 (ages 3 to 5): These kids’ swim lessons focus on floating, gliding, breath control and beginner locomotion. Preschoolers hone these abilities through engaging activities designed for short attention spans and early skill development.
Learn to Swim 1-5 (ages 5 to 12): Our core learn-to-swim program guides children through a structured progression from basic water comfort to all four competitive strokes. Each level builds on the previous one, helping swimmers develop excellent techniques and lifelong safety skills.
Swim Team Prep (ages 9 to 16): This program builds endurance, refines stroke mechanics and prepares advanced youth swimmers for competitive athletic meets in a supportive, low-pressure setting.
Adult Beginner and Intermediate (ages 16+): Our adult swim lessons offer individualized instruction for new or returning swimmers. Adults receive patient guidance, stroke refinement and confidence-building support at any skill level.

Starfish Academy offers three lesson formats, so your family can choose the level of instructional attention and flexibility that fits best.
Group lessons: As our most affordable option, group swim lessons are open to members and non-members. Swimmers learn alongside their peers in a fun, encouraging environment that builds confidence and water safety skills.
Semi-private lessons: Designed for siblings or friends who learn well together, our semi-private swim lessons are available to members only at $30 per 30-minute session per child. With smaller class sizes, swimmers receive more individualized instruction while still enjoying a shared learning experience.
Private lessons: For families seeking maximum one-on-one attention, our private swim lessons in Anchorage are exclusively available to members at $40 per 30-minute session. This format offers the fastest path to skill development, confidence and stroke refinement.
Experienced, certified instructors lead every Starfish Academy class. Water safety is paramount in every level of our program, from infant pool safety skills for parents in our earliest classes to advanced self-rescue sequences for older swimmers. No matter your child’s age or ability, our team focuses on creating a positive learning environment where safety, skill development and fun go hand in hand.
