It’s National Water Safety Month and The Alaska Club is helping to spread the word about being a safe swimmer. TAC Swim Coach Glenn Preston is a lifelong swimmer who has been with the club since 2008 teaching swim lessons and now leading our youth swim team.
Coach Glenn asked his South Swim Team kids to share their tips for being a safe swimmer -
Monday/Wednesday South Swim Team: “Don’t touch a beached jellyfish; it can still sting you and wear a life jacket that fits!” Luna Elrod, 11 “Don’t swim too far, wear a life jacket, check what’s in the water before going swimming, and go swimming with someone.” Vanessa Vakulich, 13 “Swim with someone you know, wear goggles and water shoes, don’t go out too far, and always tell someone that you are going swimming.” Timothy Vakulich, 12 |
Tuesday/Thursday South Swim Team: “Always swim with at least one other person. They can support you or call for help in an emergency. Always wear a life jacket when in bodies of water you don’t know; especially if it’s choppy.” Vivian Guess, 13 “Always wear a life jacket when going boating and always walk at the swimming pool.” Claire Chang, 11 “Always have a buddy when you swim in case of drowning.” Elijah Chang, 12 “Never go out boating in white caps.” Sophia Waters, 10 |
All great advice! Thank you to Coach Glenn and his swim team kids for helping others learn how to swim safely.
