Q: What led you to the decision that you needed to get in shape (when you first started)?

A: I joined in August 2013. I was looking for a way to speed up the winter months that were ahead and wanted to commit myself to a club that could offer classes, free weights and personal training. Working out at home wasn’t cutting it with all the distractions and excuses blocking progress. Joining, as I later found out, was very therapeutic as well! I sleep better, feel amazing and it’s a great way to release stress!

Q: How did you discover The Alaska Club?

A: I actually worked at The Alaska Club many, many years ago as a teen and knew it would be a great fit for not just me, but my two daughters and husband as well.

Q: What are your goals, how do you set, achieve and maintain them?

A: My long term goals are to compete in bodybuilding on a national level. Short term, I intend to compete at local shows and maintain high placement. In the mean time, I continue to work on trouble areas and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Q: What is your favorite muscle group to train?

A: Favorite muscle group changes from time to time. Right now, I am really enjoying training glutes and finding creative ways to target this area but cable squats are my favorite.

Q: How important is a social aspect to your training, do you like working out in groups, solo or a combination of both?

A: I prefer to work out alone for I seem to get the job done and efficiently. When I first joined, I did test out the classes and really enjoyed Zumba, Core and Power, the instructors were very fun and motivating! Occasionally, one or both of my daughters will ask me to join them and I never decline the opportunity to bond.

Q: Do you cross train?

A: I always split up my routine, half cardio & half weights.

Q: What is your motivation?

A: After 14 months hard work, and placing 1st at the AFX show, I focus on maintain in my physique; I feel fantastic!

Q: What is your favorite workout song?

A: My music varies a lot, depends on my mood but “Dubstep” is always a fun way to get in the rhythm.

Q: Have you ever fallen off the wagon of working out? How did you get yourself back on track?

A: Since joining in August 2013, the most I have been absent, is about 2 days. For me, it is hard to get back, even after a short break. I know myself well enough, to know that a long break would be difficult for me to recover from. Even during my travels, I find a local gym to join or hit the one at the hotel.

khood2.jpgQ: Who inspires you?

A: Emily and Tammy were huge inspirations for me and getting where I am now, both are personal trainers at the Fairbanks South club. Super friendly members and employees of the club keep me motivated along with the greatest reward, inspiring others.

Every few weeks, Katherine asks The Alaska Club staff to gather any discarded items that can be used for donation and bring them to SOAP, a local children's charity.
