This is YOUR year! A chance to start something new or keep your favorite routine going. However you choose to start 2026, The Alaska Club is here to support your health and wellness needs. Whether it’s trying a new group fitness class, ramping up your strength training, or logging more miles on the treadmill, a new year is the perfect time to take a self-inventory to keep what’s working for you and change what isn’t.
Check your habits – Do you have a regular fitness routine? Commit to yourself by showing up. Put workouts on your calendar just like you would set a regular meeting at work or a daily walk with your dog. If it’s on your schedule, you’re more likely to do it.
Set Realistic Goals – Don’t set the bar too high (or too heavy!) for yourself. Have achievable goals to build confidence and motivation. If you want to work on your cardio fitness but you don’t like being on a treadmill, then try another source to challenge your heart such as swimming, hopping on a bike, using a ski erg, a rower, or attending a Group Blast or Zumba class.
Start Small – Try a new habit for a short amount of time. Maybe it’s swimming 4 laps per week then adding more laps to your workout as you get stronger. Or building a quick 30-minute lunchtime workout into your workweek instead of waiting for the end of the day when you might be too tired to do a longer workout.
Stay Consistent – If your goal is to wake up and hit the 6am classes, then start going to bed early, set out your clothes for the morning, and set your alarm. Once you get in the habit of waking up, your body will adjust accordingly, and you can commit to keeping a consistent schedule. Start working out around the same time 3 days a week and build from there.
Take Time to Recover – One of the best parts about being a member of The Alaska Club is your access to wellness amenities. Most of the clubs have a sauna or steam room, which are included in your membership. You can also benefit from salt & redlight therapy, massage chairs, massage therapy, Cryolounge, HydraFacials, even restorative yoga classes which can help you reset and recover.
Fuel up & Hydrate – Maintaining good hydration and a proper diet are essential to help you not only feel your best but also keep up your energy during your workouts. If you’re looking to improve your nutrition, contact your physician or a registered dietician for guidance specific to your body’s needs.
Have Fun – Exercise is not only good for your body and mind, but it should also be fun! Being part of The Alaska Club and working out with other members and instructors or personal trainers you know and appreciate is the joy of being a part of the club’s community. Our dedicated staff is committed to helping you get the most out of your membership by providing you with a welcoming space to achieve your health and wellness goals.
From all of us at The Alaska Club, we wish you a very happy and healthy 2026!
